Wax Industry

Our journey toward a healthier lifestyle began like many others, by making small but powerful changes. As we dug deeper into the everyday products we used, we were shocked to learn that something as seemingly harmless as a candle could be a hidden source of toxins in our home. That realization changed everything.

We discovered that most candles on the market are made with paraffin, a petroleum by-product that releases harmful chemicals when burned. Determined to find a better way, we started exploring the world of natural candle-making, and that’s where we found beeswax. What started as a personal mission quickly became a passion. We fell in love with the process of handcrafting pure beeswax candles. Our mission is to shed light on the hidden health risks of conventional candles, and to offer a pure, time-honored alternative that supports both your well-being and your home.

Beeswax candles have been used for centuries in sacred spaces, and we believe your home is one of them. Through every candle we pour, we hope to restore a sense of purity, peace, and presence in your space. Because wellness isn't just about what you eat or how you move. It’s also about what you allow into your home.

Paraffin Wax

Most candles sold in stores are made from paraffin wax, a by-product of petroleum refining. While it's inexpensive and widely used, paraffin is far from a clean-burning or health-conscious choice. Paraffin is essentially the leftover sludge from refining crude oil. When burned, it releases petro-soot, a substance comparable in danger to second-hand smoke. This soot can travel deep into the lungs, and its health risks are well-documented. In fact, paraffin wax is known to release 11 different toxins, two of which are carcinogenic.

Tests, including those conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), have detected over 20 harmful compounds in paraffin candle emissions including benzene, toluene, acetone, and lead. These substances are linked to cancer, neurological damage, and reproductive harm. The soot from these candles can also leave a dirty residue on your walls, ceilings, and candle holders, adding physical grime to the already invisible health risks.

In short, paraffin (blend) candles are the worst candles on the market.

Soy Wax

Soy wax is often marketed as a natural alternative to paraffin, and while it does burn cleaner, it’s far from perfect. Soy wax is heavily processed, often blended with paraffin, and commonly derived from GMO soybeans grown using chemical pesticides. Soybean wax processing involves extracting oil from soybeans through mechanical pressing or solvent extraction, followed by hydrogenation to solidify the oil into a stable wax suitable for candles.

The process requires careful cleaning and cracking of soybeans, followed by refinement of the oil before hydrogenation. While the specific processes vary by manufacturer, this foundational hydrogenation step is critical for transforming the liquid oil into a solid wax. While it's biodegradable and soot-free, soy wax doesn’t match beeswax in burn time, stability, or purity.

In short, soy is better than paraffin, but it’s not the gold standard.

Beeswax
The Gold Standard

Beeswax is a natural substance created by honeybees. Worker bees produce beeswax from special glands on their abdomen. They secrete tiny flakes of wax, which they then chew and shape into the honeycomb, which is the intricate, hexagonal structure inside the hive that stores honey, pollen, and brood (bee larvae). To produce just one pound of beeswax, bees must consume about six to eight pounds of honey and fly thousands of miles collecting nectar. It’s a slow and delicate process, which makes beeswax one of the most precious natural waxes available. After the honey is harvested, beekeepers carefully collect the leftover wax caps that seal each honeycomb cell. This raw beeswax is then cleaned, filtered, and sometimes gently melted before it’s ready to be used in candles, balms, and other natural products. The result is a golden, sweet-smelling wax that burns cleanly, and connects us to the beauty of the natural world.

When it comes to clean-burning, truly natural candles, nothing compares to beeswax. Here’s why it's the best choice for your health, your home, and the planet.

NO CHEMICALS

Beeswax brings peace of mind because it's free from hormone-disrupting chemicals, carcinogens, and toxins found in paraffin wax.

CLEAN BURN

Beeswax has a clean, low-soot burn.

NATURALLY AROMATIC

Beeswax carries a soft, honey-like scent all on its own, no artificial fragrances or additives needed.

LONG BURN TIME

Beeswax has a high melting point, so it burns longer than both paraffin and soy. Beeswax provides us with hours of natural light and coziness.

100% NATURAL

Beeswax is made by bees, not machines. The wax is filtered without chemicals to maintain it's natural beauty and benefits.

How To Tell What's In Your Candle?

If a candle doesn’t clearly state that it’s made of beeswax, chances are it’s made from paraffin or a paraffin blend. Candle companies love to advertise when they use high-quality ingredients, so if the label is vague, that’s often intentional.

Terms like “natural wax” or “blended wax” are often marketing code for paraffin mixed with small amounts of plant-based waxes. Always look for 100% or pure Beeswax if purity matters to you.
